Abstract: | Robert Shoecraft was The Chief Justice of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands from 1958 to 1970. He was born in Xenia Ohio the son of a grocery delivery man. While growing up he did various odd jobs to save up enough money for college, During World War II he became one of the famed Tuskegee airmen, training as a ground maintenance officer in support of the pilots. After the War he got a Law degree from Ohio State University. Before assuming his first post in the Trust Territory as assistant attorney general, he took up a private practice in his hometown of Xenia Ohio. During his time working in the Trust Territory, he authored an important component of the Solomon Report, an expose of a plan for the cultural and political assimilation of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands into the United States His Honor the Chief Justice in Ebony Magazine November 1968 |
