Records from "Archivo del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, AMAE"

Abstract

The records from the Archivo del Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores, AMAE (Spain) refer to the events that occurred between the years 1860-1900 regarding the Marianas and Carolinas. For the most part it refers to the Caroline Islands and the colonial conflict with Germany in the Carolinas in 1885 –Overseas Section. As for the Mariana Islands there are only a few records in this archival material; some isolated issues with Japanese or Chinese or some Americans. In the Correspondence Series: embassies and legations are some records relating to some negotiations with Japan. In the Philippines Series there are some records on the Treaty of Paris of 1898, and events regarding the overseas colonies in the Pacific during the last decade of the Nineteenth Century. The language of the documents is mainly Castilian, although there are some in English and French. There are manuscripts and also some printed documents.
