Abstract: | Educated as a Cultural Anthropologist with a Pacific-Asia focus at the University of Oregon, Dr. Rebecca A. Stephenson’s academic career spans a considerable time frame at the University of Guam. She began her teaching career in Anthropology at UOG in January 1977. During her tenure as a fulltime faculty member of the Department of Anthropology at CAS/CLASS from the late 1970s to the early 2000s, Dr. Stephenson contributed immeasurably to the development of the undergraduate curriculum of Anthropology, designing and teaching new courses, and conducting field schools in the CNMI, Micronesia, and Indonesia. She published a number of scholarly papers in peer-reviewed academic journals, as well as books on globalization and Micronesian ethnography. Dr. Stephenson attended and presented academic papers at many international conferences. She was named the first woman Life Fellow by the Pacific Science Association at the Pacific Science Congress held in Bangkok in 2003. She has been active in many civic organizations such as the American Association of University Women (AAUW), the Federation of Asian Women’s Associations (FAWA), and the Pan-Pacific and Southeast Asia Women’s Association (PPSEAWA). Upon retirement, Dr. Stephenson established the Dr. Rebecca A. Stephenson Scholarship within the UOG Endowment Foundation. |
